Netflix is Coming to the UK and Ireland in 2012

Popular online video streaming service, Netflix, has announced this morning that it will be making its content available to the UK and Ireland in early 2012.

Netflix currently offers hundreds of movies and TV shows to the USA, Canada and the Caribbean, as well as 43 different countries in Latin America.

The company hasn’t given any prices away yet but the US package for unlimited moves is $7.99 a month so I’d expect Ireland and the UK’s to be around the same (the UK doesn’t tend to get much discount, see Spotify’s packaged $4.99 in the US, £4.99 in the UK).

Like all US packages, the service will be available on over 700 different devices including the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox, and the Sony PS3.

Anyone interested can sign up to the mailing list to receive notifications about when the service will be going live in the UK and Ireland.

Apple, AT&T and Verizon run out of the iPhone 4s

Less than a week after they went available to pre-order, Apple’s new iPhone 4S is already out of stock across all retailers.

Shipments of the original orders are good to go this Friday (Oct 14^th) but AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint have had to push the ship dates back. The UK and US online Apple stores have set the date for orders placed from here on out to 1–2 weeks while AT&T are saying 21-28 days.

According to Macworld, AT&T sold 200,000 within 12 hours of availability, making it the “most successful iPhone launch” the retailer has ever had.

Of course, Apple retail stores will have stock of the phones for the release date of October 14^th so for those of you still looking to get hold of one on release date, its looking likely that you’ll have to get to a store early and queue.

Amazon Unveil Kindle Device and Kindle Store in France

Just a week after Amazon released a new line of Kindles, as well as the Kindle Fire tablet, the internet giants have announced the release of the first French-language Kindle in France.

Alongside the €99 French Kindle, Amazon has announced that the Kindle Store will also be available in French, with over 35,000 French-language Kindle books, including all 28 L’Express best sellers and over 4,000 free French ebooks.

Greg Greeley, Vice President of Amazon European Retail says “French customers are passionate about books and reading, and just as we’ve seen in the US, UK and Germany, we believe they will love reading on Kindle. We are excited to bring our first French-language Kindle and our new Kindle store to millions of Amazon.fr customers.”

Amazon say French authors can publish their work on the Kindle Store in either English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian, for a 70% royalty option , and can specify their payment currency as U.S. dollars, British pounds and euros.

DropBox Turn down $800 Million Offer from Apple?

According to a ‘gossip’ article from Business Insider, online storage and sharing service DropBox has quietly received and rejected an $800 million acquisition offer from Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL).

BI has labelled the story as ‘gossip’ as they can’t validate the sources but the rumours is that the guys at Apple had a long, hard look at DropBox’s books, realised that it was set to make revenues of around £100 million this year and wanted a piece of the action.

After rejecting the offer, DropBox then raised itself a massive amount of investment, valuing the company at around $4 billion.

Rumours has it that Citrix also took at look at the company’s books but it’s not thought that an offer was made.
